Gym Leader's Deck lists

Some are better than others and some are just for fun. If you like 'em take 'em and modify them to your taste and play away. I am listing these here to help you with deck mechanics. I am adding my strategy to each as time goes by. This was a much larger project than I counted on, (I have 20 + decks) so check back from time to time to see if I have added more.

All Decks are E*on format unless otherwise noted.

John's Grass Deck

This was my son's idea and I modified it with some of my trainer's and my mix of Pokemon and started playing it. The idea is to have an Exeggutor as your primary fighting with the bench support as follows: 1 Dark Dragonair, 1 Meganium, and I Venusaur. The Dark Dragonair is to keep everyone evolved, the Meganium is to double the energy on the active and the Venusaur is for being able to put 2 energies on the active each round. This pretty much makes Exeggutor lethal and when you have 5 or more energies on him and rolling 10 dice times 20 for each heads. Well, your opponent can get demoralized quickly and concede defeat.

This deck is Neo on format

The Fighting King

This is just brute strength! NidoKing will roll over your opponents, but be careful of his weakness to grass (but he is resistant to lighting!!) This deck as it evolves it changes types! It starts out grass, and winds up fighting type. This can be an advantage as the Stage 1 Nidorans are pretty good if you can flip enough heads. NidoKing will (when you flip enough heads) kill the opponents bench and the opponent with attacks of 80 per round and 10 to the bench. The Arcanine is in this deck for Tech (to foil an opponents grass deck He is not the main hitter). While the Arcanine is powerful it will damage the opponent until you are ready to do battle with NidoKing.

Psychic Manipulation

This deck is energy efficient! Gardevoir will allow you to search your deck for energy and put it on one of your Pokemon(but 2 damege counter go with it). Most people put it on Gardevoir (pronounced Guard e war. It is French ya know) and try to heal as they go. My contribution to this is Ampharos from Expedition and I put it on something on the bench that has little damage and then move it to My active. When I can get this combo running The opponent might as well give up. In 2 or 3 rounds I can have 4 to 6 energies on Gardevoir without trying too hard, and if I get a Gardevoir on my bench helping out, too bad soo sad. I am considering taking out the Delcatty and putting in Grumpig. Grumpig builds deceptively fast and will take out an opposing Gardevoir with only 2 energies (read the first attack). This little piggy not only goes to market, He brings home the bacon.

Scizor Cuts Twice

Get as many Steel energies on Scizor as fast as possible. Simple, huh? To make it easier you have the Furrett helping with his Pokemon Power that allows you to put back 2 cards and get out ANY energy that you want from your deck, so get him to the bench FAST. Now beyond that flip a lot of heads and you will knock out your opponents and win. Pretty straight foward and easy to play.

Seadra's Rapids

I have made a lot of changes to this deck. It runs on the less is more theory. I get what I want first round even if I have to mulligan to get it, so what if my opponent gets a few extra cards! I get to kill him faster! I want to get out a Linoone as fast as possible, or evolve to Kingdra and start the massacre. The Genetic memory is awesome coupled with retaliate. Early game it is ugly. You get plenty of damage on Kingdra and use genetic memory for retaliate attack with Horsea (Dragon EX series). Your opponent is thinking that he is killing you and then you are killing him. Hopefully he can damage you for a good couple of 60 attacks in a row. Then you hit him for 120 until he takes you out. That could be the game in your favor. All my trainers are healing, drawing cards, growing, or weakness protection. The 4 boost energy guarantee that I will do extra damage on 4 rounds. The Kindra with the Water Cyclone power will allow me to keep my energy in play and retreat with a switch and keep on fainting the opponent pokemon.

Victreebel-Muk

These Pokemon will do a LOT more damage than the marked attacks 10 and 40. They have the power to move Pokemon around and give some kind of status that will damage between turns until you make your opponent scream. The Muk will burn and poision so they could have 70 damage before you get to attack them again. I average getting 50 damage from that attack. Yeah it just does 10, but the status really does the trick. The Victreebel can pull one from the bench and do 40 and burn. This could do 80 damage before your turn starts again. Have fun with this one. I try to get the Seekout Linoone out first and then build from there.

Rolling Golem

60 Damage with no resistance allowed! You also get the opponent's attack reduced by 10 on the Golem. In this environment a lot of things are weak to Fighting. The Breloom is a great follow-up attacker as it adds 10 for each fighting energy on it. I use the Linoone to get the drawing advantage here again. Build fast and use the Rare Candy to get ahead early.

Blaziken's Smokin'

The Delcatty with energy draw will keep you ahead with "Hand Advantage". Put them on the bench and use the Magmar's to hold off the opponent until you can get the Blaziken's running. You put 2 Blaziken's with the recharge on the bench and fight with the other one's. You have the Delcatty's on the bench and you can draw at will. I have thought about removing the Professor Oak's Research entirely in favor of more Prof Elm's Training Method. I have also thought about changing the Stone Crush, and Healing Oasis to Retro Cave's. With a slight tweaking this can get really good.

Sceptile's Deceit

This deck is set up to move energies around at will and use the Pokemon Nurses to remove damage without loosing energies. It is kinda hard to get setup, but is an efficient killer in a long game. The Lizard Poison Sceptile will absolutely murder your opponent, but you have to be coy enough to get it going without loosing too many energies in the beginning. The Azumarill's are for stopping (slowing down fire). They can be effective in stopping a fire attack, as they power up very fast. The Linoone's are for drawing what you want them out early. The DRE (Double Rainbow Energy) will power an attack fast and surprise an opponent. The Cyclone energy are for gusting an opponent's benched Pokemon up for a quick kill, or to get a heavy hitter out of the battle.

Hey! Don't Evolve Yet

This deck can fight in many directions. The best of all would be to get the Linoone out first, and you will have choices. The Omanyte calls all the other Kabuto and Omanyte to your bench, one energy and you are in business. The Poliwrath can be fun and the Kabutops is a killer. The Omastar will stop your opponent from evolving and you in the drivers seat doing 50 per turn.

Cacturne is Coming

Dark energies power up Cacturne's Poison attack to become a frightening power. It is a fun deck to play. I like the Sandstorm Cacturne for the bench killing it can do. Mewtwo gets an energy, Use Juggler to draw 4 cards Energy Absorb for the 2 energies in the discard pile and knock out his basics next round. The second round you are hitting for 60!

Raichu's Thunder

This deck is fun to play and has potential to destroy any opponent. You will play the Traveling Salesman to get the Memory Berry out. It will allow you to use Pichu's attack and get 2 Energies out of the discard pile one turn then next turn you can use Mega Thunderbolt. The Pokemon Nurses will heal you before you attach energy, so you can use Mega Thunderbolt every other turn for 4 times using this technique. The first time you have energy from evolving him to Raichu. This is 5 times you hit your opponent with 120HP blasts. The Electabuzz is for their bench. You can nail 1 or 2 on the bench with this and that should be game in your favor. All this should happen in the first 15 rounds.

If you find your self facing fire (Metagross's weakness) take a look at Gorebyss. Metagross uses steel and psychic energy, Gorebyss second attack uses ALL psychic energy in play to add 10 to its attack You can be powering up your Meta and be hitting for 40+ on third round with Gorebyss. The strength charm is tech for getting rid of a bench before it gets started. The first attack on Metagross EX uses it to faint a 50HP guy before he gets started.

Vileplume's Supporter Status

Vileplume stops your opponent from playing all Trainer cards except supporters, unless they are playing Mr. Briney they have no way to heal themselves. Vileplume is healed every time by Bellossom and the Oran Berrys and Potions.

The Dunsparce - Jirachi combo is awesome. You Dunsparce for Jirachi and build you evolutions with Jirachi.

Charizard's Fire

Get the Pidgeot running and the game works! Yes this is a risky deck, but if you are a little lucky and can recover from early game miscues, IT WILL BLOW YOUR OPPONENT OUT!

Boost energy will be back with the next set, so I am anticipating a little here. If you can set up at least one Blaziken for the fire return with the Manectric then you can Slash for 50 until you can build for Charizard's Fire. It will "BURN DOWN THE HOUSE"! Pokemon [22]

Crush and Burn
Revised 4/25/05

This is a simple mechanism, but you have to be a little lucky to make it work. First you get out the Pidgeot line. Then you use quick search and your trainers to get out all the rest. You want at LEAST one Blaziken on the bench to make this bird fly. The Blaziken moves the discarded energy to the bench and you discard all you want to knock out the opponent. With one Blaziken running you can do 70 every round. Now we all know that Boost is coming back. That means you could do 110 on 4 different rounds. I think that should do it, huh?

Hyper Whirlpool

Raindance is back . . . sort of. This deck can get out a lot of energy fast, but it also damages you as you put it on. So I use the Team Aqua's Manectric to put the energy on and move it to Blastoise. I leave the damage on the bench and have a fresh Blastoise to fight with. I can "Compassion" the Manectric when I choose to. Now the real thread that keeps this working is the Pidgeot. You can't get an EX out with Celio's Network so I get the Pidgeot working instead and use the Quick Search to do the work.
